You are released

From your self imposed prison

You can no longer hear

The clanking and dripping

The shouting and breathing

The torment is over.

The sun hits your shoulder

You squint as you look at it.

You lost years of your life

You’ll never get back

To being in hell.

Freedom is beautiful

You come and go

Nobody to judge you

Nobody to question you

Nobody to hate you.

It’s invigorating;

Every day a new adventure

You find a new sense of yourself

Putting pieces of your soul back together

As best you can.

Remembering things you liked

Years ago;

Before the hell.

Then one day something happens

You get frightened

Freedom is scary then;

You don’t know where to hide.
